 Demonstration lesson plan – 11 April, 2011

3rd EPA.L of Tavros

Grade/English level: 2nd of EPAL / mixed ability class (levels A1-B2)

Number of students: 16

Subject: Job interviews

Duration: 40 min

Aim and description: Students learn vocabulary related to job interviews and employment. Then, they practise their communication skills using the vocabulary learnt, through a role-play activity. Prior to this lesson, students have been taught excerpts from unit 9 “Go for it” from their school course book “ΤΕΕ–ΓενικάΑγγλικά – Β΄τάξη–ΟΕΔΒ”, p.p. 141-160, so they are already familiar with the topic, which is useful since many of them are planning to start working after finishing school. Finally, they get a photocopy of a crossword with the taught vocabulary to solve at home as homework.

Materials: Laptop, projector, speakers, power point presentation (uploaded on Slide Share: http://www.slideshare.net/Kitsos2/job-interviews-7287549), photocopies of activity sheets for role – play activity, photocopies of a crossword created with Eclipse Crossword: http://www.eclipsecrossword.com/ .

Procedure

Step 1: Warm up (3 minutes):

Speaking about two cartoons

Objective: Introduction to the topic, motivation of students.

Step 2 (14 min):

Presenting new vocabulary and questions that may come up during an interview, presenting the role – play activity. POWER POINT PRESENTATION Job interviews!.ppt (1,2 MB)

Objective: To teach vocabulary that will be useful to students in case they are interviewed for a job in English, in the future.

Step 4 (16 min):

Role – play activity

Objective: Students practise their speaking skill and learn through group work.
